Michael Nii Yarboi was disqualified from contesting in the NDC Odododiodoo parliamentary aspirant
The Ghana Police Service has reportedly arrested Michael Nii Yarboi, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for Odododiodoo who was disqualified during the party's primaries in 2023.
According to a report by citinewsroom.com, the arrest was effected after a bench warrant was issued against the former NDC parliamentary hopeful.
The report indicated that Nii Yarboi, who is currently being prosecuted for allegedly slapping a resident of James Town and a branch executive of the NDC in Odododiodoo, failed to appear in court on Monday, June 24, 2024.
The prosecution told the court that the accused person, who has been charged with criminal charges of assault, is deliberately evading the court proceedings.
Nii Yarboi reportedly failed to appear before the Dansoman Circuit Court when the case was called for hearing on Thursday, June 20, 2024, forcing the case to be adjourned to Monday, June 24, 2024.
On Monday when the case was called, the accused once again failed to appear.
The police prosecutor then informed the court that his outfit had information that the former NDC parliamentary hopeful was deliberately ignoring the directives of the court to be present.
The prosecutor then pleaded with the circuit court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest, which the court granted.
The report indicated sources close to the prosecution said that Michael Yarboi was arrested after the bench warrant was issued.
The court adjourned the case to July 8, 2024.
