“Apology Not Enough”
NDC Parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma South Constituency, Fritz Baffour has expressed outrage at the way the Electoral Commission went about the recent registration exercise and described EC boss’ apology as “unnecessary.”
The candidate, who is the owner and Managing Director of Tropical Vision Storm Limited (TV Production and Media Consult), believes that the exercise, which was aimed at inculcating in the youth the democratic principles of asserting their rights through elections, left a lot to be desired.
“The EC made us believe that all was well financially and logistically. But look at the way the whole exercise was fraught with difficulties and the trauma these young ones had to go through simply to get registered,” Fritz said.
The media and show biz celebrity, whose father, Dr. R. P. Baffour, was the Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi , disclosed these in an interview with the Crystal Clear Lens recently.
Touching on his electoral chances in the constituency, Fritz Baffour, who was the chairman of the Museums and Monuments Board and Acting Managing Director of the Ghana Tourist Development Company respectively, expressed optimism.
He stated that although he is well known in the constituency as a staunch NDC member, his persona cuts across the political divide. “I therefore have an edge over other contesting candidates. I’m in to grab the seat for my party,” he said confidently.
He conceded that the seat is a tough one, but was quick to add that he had identified the mistakes that were committed by some of the past candidates of his party and mapped out answers to correct them.
“One thing I started immediately after the primaries was to build bridges between me and other losing candidates. Even though some supporters of the other aspirants are yet to understand me, the candidates and majority of their supporters and my side have merged and we are working together,” he explained.
He cited the enthusiasm displayed by his constituency executives, losing candidates and the party faithfuls during the recent successful launching of the party’s campaign and his introduction as the parliamentary candidate to the public as ample evidence of unity among his party.
Fritz, who was the first independent TV producer in Ghana , hopes to correct the imbalance in his constituency.
“I know the needs of the people. It is the right leadership that is lacking and I am the man to provide that qualitative leadership for the people. My area is made up of fisher folks, traders, technocrats, commercial drivers, and huge unemployed youth,” he stated.
When elected, he said, he would his position to get work done on the road network, drainage system, sanitation, streetlights and above all security in the area.
