The Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress Solomon Nkansah is accusing the leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of sabotaging the Mahama-led administration.

In his opinion, the Union’s refusal to reduce transport fares drastically after the recent reduction in petroleum prices is part of efforts to make the government unpopular.

He told Accra-based Citi FM most of the leaders of the transport union are known activists of the main opposition New Patriotic Party.

“ Their National Chairman, their general secretary and many of their regional chairmen are members of the NPP and for that matter, they allow their partisan considerations into a lot of things.

“During former President Kufuor’s regime, the NPP first increased fuel by 64% and the GPRTU was made to increase fares by 15% the following period they increased fuel by 90% the GPRTU was made to increase fuel by 20%,” he alleged.

He wondered: “What has changed, Why are they being hostile to this government?

"If you take away their partisan considerations and their connivance with the NPP, what else?

"They think reducing the fares drastically will make the Mahama government so popular so they are dragging their feet".
