Ghanaians asked to maintain stability and democracy in the country

The District chief Executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Madam Georgina Nkrumah Aboah has said the successes chalked by Ghana in her political history are anchored on the peace, stability and democracy it has been enjoying over the years.

She said Ghana’s Democratic record over the past decade had become enviable on the global scene, and therefore there was the need to uphold and sustain it.

Madam Aboah said these at a parade of school children to mark the 55th Independence Anniversary Celebration at Breman Asikuma on Tuesday.

It was under the theme “sustaining peace and democracy for National Unity and Development”.

Fifty students from Senior High, Junior High and Primary schools in the district participated in the march past which was also attended by chiefs and a large crowd of people from the area.

The DCE said the development of every nation could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and unity, adding that a peaceful environment was a vital pre-requisite for democracy to flourish.

"It therefore behoves us all to work together in order to sustain peace and democracy for the full realization of the Better Ghana Agenda," she said

“We should all be very responsible and circumspect in our utterances in campaigning for our respective candidates", she said, adding that this will go a long way to create a peaceful and congenial atmosphere for a successful election.

Madam Aboah encouraged every Ghanaian of 18 years and above to register when the biometric registration exercise began, to enable them to exercise their franchise in the December 2012 elections.

The DCE said the NDC government remained committed to the Better Ghana agenda as it continued to provide free school uniforms, free text books and exercise books, as well as the continuation of the school feeding programme.

Madam Aboah urged the youth to abstain from pre-marital sex in order to stay free from the HIV/AIDS scourge.

She also advised them against engaging in anti-social practices such as indecent dressing, drunkenness and other activities that may push them into immoral conduct.
