The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, says Ghanaians have lost faith and hope in the country's democratic system because of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s incompetent leadership.

Addressing the rank and file of the NDC and other dignitaries at the outdooring of his running mate for the 2024 election, Prof. Jane Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang at UPSA, the former president stated that Ghana is in a sorry state under the President Akufo-Addo administration.

“Our country Ghana over the last few years has been buffeted with turbulent seas and sailing against a very strong wind. Our leadership has been uninspiring and inept.

“We have lived under an administration that has been unable to be truthful and honest to the people of Ghana and never accepts responsibility for anything,” Mr. Mahama stated.

He continued: “There can be no question in our minds that the effect of this marred administration has been so insidious and pervasive, that today our people have lost faith and hope in not just the government of the day but in our democratic system of governance.”

However, the running mate of NDC flagbearer John Mahama for the 2024 election, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang speaking at the same event, stated that corrupt government officials under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration will be prosecuted.

According to her, the move to prosecute officials who found themselves in any form of embezzlement is hinged on the principle of accountability.

“Across the political divide, across social and professional groupings, among the youth, you hear of complaints and stories concerning state capture, where this government has chosen to use its power not in the broader interest of all Ghanaians but to favor a small clique. What is that?

“John and I have agreed, that whoever has participated in the plunder of the state must be held accountable. This is not a threat; it is a promise, premised on the wishes of our citizens across the various political and social divides, and hinged on the principle of accountability,” Prof Opoku-Agyemang stated.
