Ghanaians urged to vote for development-oriented party

Simpoa (E/R), Nov. 7, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, Professor John Evans Attah-Mills has advised the electorate to vote for a party that would initiate pragmatic programmes to develop their areas.

He said the economic condition prevailing in the country where a few people were enjoying the nation's resources should inform the larger suffering population to vote wisely in Election 2004 for a change in their standard of living.

Prof. Mills was addressing rallies at Nkawkaw, Hweehwee, Simpoa and Asubone Rails in the Kwahu West and Kwahu South Districts as part of his five-day electioneering campaign tour of the Eastern Region. He said the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Government's four-year rule had brought untold hardships to the people including high utility bills; high fuel prices, which affected the transport sector; increased school fees and increasing unemployment.

The NDC Presidential Candidate told the large crowd that defied a heavy downpour to meet him at the Asubone Rails, that the NDC had no plans to overthrow the Government through a military coup as was being speculated, saying "the NDC would definitely win the December elections through the ballot box to save the people from the hardships".

He said the cost of fuel alone being used by the President's fleet of vehicles during his campaign tour in the regions could have been used to rehabilitate the Hweehwee-Simpoa roads and construct a junior secondary school block for the children in the area.

Prof. Mills advised NDC supporters to be tolerant during their electioneering campaigns and to desist from responding to insults from their political opponents to ensure peaceful elections. He introduced Mr Rexford Kwasi Denkyi and Emmanuel Bamfo Boateng as Parliamentary Candidates for Abetifi and Nkawkaw Constituencies, respectively.

The chiefs in the communities he visited appealed for the rehabilitation of feeder roads, provision of boreholes and construction of classroom blocks when the NDC formed the next government.
