Gomoa East Assembly endorses President's nominee

Members of the Gomoa East District Assembly on Monday endorsed the President's nominee for the position of a District Chief Executive (DCE) after the death of the former DCE over 10 months ago.

Mr Moses Jehu-Appiah, the nominee, polled 28 yes votes of members present, and 11 no votes against him, making a total of the 39 members of the Assembly.

The 28 votes represented 72 percent of the total votes cast.

The voting was supervised by Mr Moses Tia, Gomoa East District Director of the Electoral Commission (EC).

The appointment of the new DCE, followed the demise of Mr Isaac Kingsley Ahunu-Armah, the DCE for the area over 10 months ago.

Earlier in an address, Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Central Regional Minister, urged the Assembly members to re-consider their decision to approve the President’s nominee to ensure peace and development in the area.

He said the confirmation of the DCE would enhance certain policies and programmes to give the required face-lift for the district.

The Minster said the government under President John Mahama had rolled out massive development plans that would raise better living standards of people in Gomoa East.

Mr Fred Arthur, Presiding Member (PM) of the Assembly, said it had put in place measures to improve the collection of revenue to undertake more development projects.

He said the Assembly would not all the time rely on the District Assembly Common Fund, and there was, therefore the need to explore avenues to rake in plenty revenue.

Mr Arthur stated that the Assembly had set up an office at the far east of the District at Gomoa Buduburam to manage sharp developed estates that had sprang up near Kasoa, to ensure the rapid collection of property rate..

Obirifo Ahunakoh Ankobea, Omanhene of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, said the approval of the President’s nominee would go a long way to bring the needed development to the Gomoa East District.

Mr Jehu-Appiah thanked members of the Assembly for the confidence and trust reposed in him, by giving him the chance to serve the district.

Mr Jehu-Appiah called for co-operation, unity, peace, love and humility from the party and non-party members in the Gomoa East District to help chalk the expected success in the areas of health, education, road, energy and roads.
