Gomoa Ekwamkrom (C/R), May 2, GN A- The Gomoa East
Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected Dr
Edwand Nana Cudjoe, a medical doctor based in US, as its parliamentary
candidate to contest the 2012 election. Dr Cudjoe polled 192 votes to beat five other contestants in an election
conducted by Electoral Commission (EC) at Gomoa Ekwamkrom, near
Agona Swedru. The second contestant Mr Sam Quram, a former MP, had 105 votes
whilst Mr Kwesi Abuakoh, Chartered Accountant got 55 votes with Mr Mac
Jewll Annan, former District Chief Executive in Kufuor administration polle= d
45 votes and Mr Foster Forson, an accountant, obtained 22 votes. Dr Cudjoe promised to unite the party members to ensure victory in the
2012 elections. He said his priority would be on education if he is elected as MP and
promised to support underprivileged children to attend secondary and
tertiary institutions. Dr Cudjoe said an educational endowment fund would be established to
assist needy but brilliant children in the constituency, adding that there were
many children roaming the streets to the disadvantage of their education. On agriculture, Dr Cudjoe said when given the nod he would collaborate
with government agencies to assist farmers in the area to increase their
production. Mr Benjamin Otoo, Gomoa East Constituency Chairman of the party,
appealed to other contestants to assist the winner for the party to win the
election, saying that the victory for Dr Cudjoe was for all party supporter= s
and urged them to work hard to win the 2012 elections.
