Gomoa NDC angry with Veep

Some executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Gomoa Central in the Central Region have given Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur a week’s ultimatum to explain why he warned the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Rachel Nana Adwoa Appoh not to support one of the candidates vying for the post of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Moses Jehu Appiah.

They also called for an immediate investigation into the matter for appropriate measures to be taken to help dispel the notion and foster unity among party members.

According to them, the Vice President should be unbiased in the discharge of his duties in order not to cause chaos in the party.

They accused the Vice President of creating tension in the party in the area due to the talks he had with Ms Appoh, who is also the Deputy Minister of Gender and Social Protection in May, 2013.

They disclosed this in a press statement signed by some branch executives of the party in the area including Michael Botwey, the Gomoa Achiase branch secretary and issued to some selected media houses in Cape Coast.

The statement was copied to the Office of the Vice President, the Regional Minister and his Deputy, the Deputy General Secretary, the MP, as well as Constituency Secretary.

The MP, at a meeting with all the branch executives in the area on June 2, 2013 at the A.M.E Zion Church at Gomoa Aboso disclosed that Mr Amissah Arthur asked her to reject the proposal of Mr Appiah for the DCE post since he would unseat her in the 2016 general election, they noted.

They indicated that it was wrong for Madam Appoh to have made such an announcement on that platform.

“The MP remarked that although she acknowledged the support of Mr Appiah during the parliamentary primaries and general elections, the vice president had asked her to reject his proposal since he would unseat her in 2016,” he added.

They could not fathom why the MP failed to address disunity among party members at the meeting but concentrated on her plans to contest the 2016 elections.

“She has even warned two other people who contested her in the 2012 election not to make any attempt to contest her again or else she would deal with them ruthlessly since she has the support of the vice president,” he added.

Efforts by the paper to speak to Hon. Appoh proved futile as she failed to pick calls by the reporter.
