Gomoa Mampong (C/R), March 24, GNA - Mr Fred Oscar Abban, Presiding Member of the Gomoa District Assembly, has picked nomination forms to contest the Gomoa West Parliamentary primaries on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said this at a Thanksgiving Service and Performance Review of 2007 at Gomoa Mampong at the weekend. Mr Abban told the gathering that his intention to contest the 2008 parliamentary election stemmed from the fact that the constituency had been neglected.
He said he would not attack, malign or cast insinuation against the sitting MP but the truth must be told so that NPP would never suffer in the December 2008 elections. Mr Abban said plans had been completed for the construction of a 12-seat place of convenience at Gomoa Kokofu and a block of six classrooms for Mampong had been completed. Mr Francis Arthur, Gomoa Mampong Unit Committee Secretary, told the gathering that committees had been formed to implement programmes in the town this year.
He said the committees would work in the areas of education, health, sanitation, population, poverty reduction programme and social welfare to improve the living standards of the people. Nana Mensah Essel VIII, Chief of Gomoa Mampong, praised the government for the provision of electricity to the town and urged the people to use the power to establish small scale industries. He alleged that the previous government refused to connect the town to the national grid in 1991-2 under the self help rural Electrification project because of the people's relationship with a political party.
