Gomoa West Inter-Party Dialogue Committee to support registration, elections

The Gomoa West District Inter-Party Dialogue Committee, has intensified its public education, to ensure violent-free biometric voters’ registration and December 7 Election.

The Committee, made up of representatives of political parties, the Electoral Commission, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), security forces, youth groups and representatives of religious groups, was formed to resolve election-related issues, to ensure peaceful, free and fair registration and elections.

The Committee, which is being sponsored by the Gomoa District Assembly, has two units; one responsible for monitoring the registration exercise, and the other tasked to embark on public education on the rules of the registration exercise.

Ms Georgina Yeboah, District NCCE Director, who led the public education group, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Gomoa Sampa that, though the registration had so far been smooth, the Committee did not want to take chances during the last lap of the exercise.

She explained that the Committee had intensified education on the rules of the electoral process to prevent people from disrupting the registration.

Ms Yeboah commended the District Electoral Officer for handling the registration exercise efficiently, and the political parties and the public for observing the electoral laws.

She cautioned the people against multiple registrations and prevention of people from registering on the grounds that they are aliens or are below 18 years and added that “Just call for challenge forms and register your complains for a committee to take a decision on it later,” she said.**
