Gov’t lied; military deployment is to intimidate potential voters – NDC Communicator

A communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Eric Sosu has taken the government particularly the president to the cleaners accusing him of using the military to intimidate residents in the strongholds of the party in the ongoing registration exercise.

Despite assurances given by government that the military personnel were only sent to the regions to enforce the border closure, Mr. Sosu is of a different view.

He stated without mincing words that the government only deployed the military to harass residents in the Volta and Oti Regions.

He wondered why the military was not deployed to the strongholds of the NPPP.

Mr. Eric Sosu opined that the NPP is aware of losing the 2020 polls hence they are so desperate to use all means possible to rig the elections in their favour.

The government has explained to Ghanaians that the troops were deployed as part of measures to control COVID-19 importation into Ghana.

However, the New Patriotic Party MP for Adansi Asokwa K.T. Hammond said the soldiers were sent to the area to ensure that foreigners to do not register in the upcoming voters register compilation.

He told journalists that votes from Ketu South overturned the NPP’s lead in 2008 elections because foreigners crossed the border to vote, therefore, the government is being vigilant this time.

Reacting to this, Mr. Sosu said the NPP is plotting on using the issue of foreigners to disenfranchise qualified persons from registering to vote.

He cautioned the NPP to desist from the plots since the NDC will not entertain any machinations.
