Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur on Wednesday reiterated government’s commitment to develop Science, Vocational and Technical education to contribute meaningfully to the development of Ghana's oil and gas industry.

He, therefore, charged authorities in the educational sector to modify and lay more emphasis on the three areas rather than the current focus on the liberal arts.

Without denigrating the liberal arts, the Vice President said those subjects were more in demand just after the post independent era, but today's economy was more based on technological development that requires professionals in technical and vocational field.

Vice President Amissah Arthur made the point when he commissioned a two storey boys dormitory, six unit class unit classroom block with ancillary facilities constructed with sponsorship from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) at Oguaa Senior High Technical School in Cape Coast, the Central Regional Capital.

Acknowledging the role of education in national development, the Vice President said government would enhance access to education by expanding existing facilities and equipping them with the right resources.

He urged the students to take their studies seriously, explaining that education was the surest way of breaking the vicious cycle of poverty.

Osabarima Kwesi Atta, Paramount Chief of Oguaa, thanked the government for the gesture.

Vice President Amissah Arthur had earlier inaugurated an 18 unit classroom block, a sick bay and Staff Common Room for the Ghana National College, also under GETfund.
