Government declares commitment to continue pace of development

President John Evans Atta Mills on Thursday pledged Government’s commitment to continue with the pace of development until the election period.

“It is true that we will have to campaign at some point in time but I promise you this will not be at the expense of pushing the Better Ghana Agenda,” President Mills stated in his State of the Nation Address to Parliament in Accra.

President Mills said government would not sacrifice the gains made on the economic front on the altar of election year politics, stressing that Ghana must grow; and Ghana would only grow if "We take bold and courageous decisions".

He charged other political parties to consider the common yearning to see Ghana moved forward as the fundamental principles for elections; “Even as we seek to promote our respective political ideologies, we must be willing to synthesize the best ideas from both sides of the House for the advancement of the country”.

President Mills tasked Members of Parliament to put aside unnecessary partisanship and kept in mind the big picture of how to sustain the middle-income status through sustainable economic development.

He said that would be the multi-party democracy dividend for which, "We all continue to toil in the name of Mother Ghana".

President Mills assured the Parliamentarians that government would continue to treasure their inputs at all times; adding: “Do not forget there is still a lot of work to be done...in the House.”
