Ms Aryee calls for cooperation among mining companies, industries and local

people.

Tarkwa (W/R), March 28, (Credit Asmah) GNA - Ms. Joyce Aryee, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines has said that, the mining industry would continue to play a major role in the government's programme to revamp the country's economy. She called for closer cooperation and understanding among mining companies, the local people and all institutions associated with the industry. These were contained in a speech read for her at the launch of the 19th annual Students Representative Council (SRC) Week of the Western University College of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at Tarkwa on Saturday. It was on the theme: "The socio-economic impact of the mining industry-the engineers perspective".

Ms. Aryee said the mining companies would continue to rely largely on students of the college for their skilled manpower requirements to enable them to operate more efficiently. She advised the students to take their studies more seriously so that they could provide efficient services to these companies. Mr. Isaac Boahen SRC President of the College, appealed for assistance from the government and institutions to provide additional facilities to enhance teaching and learning. Mr. Stanley Tweneboah a fourth year mechanical engineering student used the occasion to put on display a "module" of a complete mine set. Other activities included exhibitions, film shows, fun games, and variety entertainment.
