Edudzi Tameklo, Director of Legal Affairs for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed that the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander was not aware of the detention of NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, by the police.

Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor was arrested in connection with her possession of a gun on the dawn of Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Delali Sewarkpor, however, denied her involvement in the stabbing, stating that she was nowhere near the scene of the incident.

Edudzi Tamakloe described his experience at the Cantonments police office, stating, “In fact, to the point when we got to the Cantonments police office, I went to one of the offices and said, I’m begging permit me just to have a look at her (Naa Okunor) and just speak to her.

"They had to make calls whether I should be permitted to go… back and forth, back and forth, the Regional Police Commander himself [DCOP Arhin Kwasi Annor] came and said he wasn’t well but when he heard it he had to rush to this place. And that he is not aware of what is happening," 3news.com quoted Tameklo.

Naa Koryoo was reportedly detained after the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service invited her on Friday, June 7, 2024, over a gun possession issue.

She was initially arrested after a gun was reportedly found in her car following a clash at the district office of the Electoral Commission of Ghana in Kasoa.

She confirmed ownership of the gun retrieved from her vehicle in Kasoa, stressing that the registered firearm was to protect herself against the MP for the area, Mavis Hawa Koomson.
