Greenstreet must come again

Wed, 9 Nov 2011 Source: Odartey Hayford

Upon listening to the General Secretary of CPP on Eye witness news on

Citifm last night, that Flagbearership election should take place

‘sometime next year’ with the excuse that the newly elected National

Executives should be given the chance to organize the party structures

in all the 230 constituencies, we became worried about the real

intentions of the newly elected executives of the CPP especially Mr.

Greenstreet, who is a Lawyer by profession. We were wondering why the

General Secretary of a well known political party like the CPP should

make such unilateral statement.

It is very worrying and unacceptable for the General Secretary of our

party, Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet to have made such undemocratic

proclamation especially considering the limited time available for the

party to contest the presidential and parliamentary election.

We are incredibly disturbed about the fact that, the newly elected

National executives are sabotaging the CPP because, the decision to

hold presidential primaries ‘sometime next year’ as indicated by Mr.

Ivor Greenstreet on Citifm and Ms. Samia Nkrumah on Choice fm is a

complete violation of Article 78 clause 3 of the CPP Constitution,

which stipulates in simple language that the party should go to

congress two years ahead of any general elections.

We wish to give surety to the National Executives that, any purposeful

attempt to subvert the CPP constitution and sabotage the electoral

fortunes of our dear party in the 2012 general elections would not be

taken nonchalantly at all. The CPP leadership must further understand

that procrastination is the thief of time; so therefore, we cannot

waste time because if we did, we can only waste ourselves and our

party.

We do not want to believe that the undue delay is an effort to further

the agenda of other political parties and their candidates at the

expense of the promising electoral fortunes of the CPP in the 2012

elections. If the CPP is not interested in contesting the 2012 general

elections, the leadership must be bold to tell us now so that we do

not waste our time.
