Group wants Pelpuo as sole candidate for Wa Central

Friends of Alhaji Dr. Rashid Pelpuo are calling on the membership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Wa Central Constituency to consider maintaining the Minister of State in charge of Public Private Partnership (PPP) as sole candidate for the 2016 general elections.

The group believed that the battle for 2016 would be fought and won based on commitment and popularity of a candidate at the grassroots level, and that, the party could not afford to experiment with any candidate, especially at a time the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) seriously have its eye focused on capturing the seat.

Alhaji Dr. Pelpuo has been in Parliament for 12 years representing the Wa Central Constituency and is seeking a fourth term re-election to extend his stay in the Legislature for additional four years.

Addressing a press conference in Wa, Mr. Iddrisu Ansuar-Deen Nanjo, Leader of the group stated emphatically that it was only Alhaji Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, who could retain the seat for the NDC come the 2016 parliamentary polls.

He said this conclusion was anchored on a scientific survey conducted to measure the performance of the MP, adding that, the results indicated that there was enormous support for his stewardship and candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary elections as 80 per cent of the youth preferred him to other prospective candidates.

Mr. Nanjo stated that, the Minister of State in charge of PPP was the most accomplished NDC MP ever in the history of the constituency.

He said as an MP, Alhaji Dr. Pelpuo served in various capacities as Minister of Sports, Deputy Majority Leader and now Minister of State in charge of PPP.

“All these he earned in his own right and the level of ingenuity he exudes in his line of duty”.

“As an MP, he has brought a lot of developments to his people and has rendered scores of social and economic support to his constituents, most of which are on the quiet”, he added.

Touching on some of the achievements of the MP, Mr. Nanjo noted that in the area of potable water provision, he undertook 17 borehole projects for some communities in the Municipality, including Danko, Tamarimuni, Tendamba, Chansa, Kabanye and Dondoli.

“He also personally spearheaded and facilitated the Wa water project, which is estimated to provide 6,000 gallons of water a day to the Municipality and its environs when completed”, he alleged.

Mr. Nanjo cited the renovation of Kpongu, Boli and Bamahu Health Centres; construction of sheds for selected health centres; facilitation of the construction of a classroom block for the Health Assistants Training School and the repair of an X-Ray machine, as some of the MP’s support to the health sector in the Municipality.

The Leader of Friends of Alhaji Dr. Rashid Pelpuo said for agriculture, the MP had through a collaborative project with Rashpelp Foundation subsidized the cost of tractor services for about 1,000 farmers in 2014 and for the 2015 farming seasons.

In the area of education, he said the MP supported through the provision of logistics to some schools as well as facilitated the construction of classroom blocks in various schools.
