A Deputy Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP), Nana Yaw Preko says the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) is engaging in an exercise in futility in their attempt to hang the corruption tag on President Akufo Addo.

The NDC has accused President Akufo-Addo of being the biggest enabler and promoter of corruption in Ghana.

National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, at a press conference Monday said Mr Akufo-Addo’s handling of the BOST corruption scandal smacks of grand collusion and cover-up of epic proportions.

“The fact that till date no one is standing prosecution for this pungent corruption scandal which has caused the nation huge financial losses, bears Akufo-Addo out as the biggest enabler and promoter of corruption”.

Mr Gyamfi added, “five (5) million litres of fuel was contaminated at the premises of the state-owned Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) by the mixture of diesel and petrol, and sold to unlicensed companies namely, Movenpina and Zup Oil under dubious circumstances”.

“Ironically, this is a man who rode on the back of an anti-corruption campaign into office, promising not to tolerate or countenance same under his administration. However, after being elected into office, he has normalised corruption and made it very attractive in his government. He has defended and cleared his corrupt appointees of several grievous corrupt acts against the state such as the BOSTGATE scandal”, Mr Gyamfi said.

But the NPP Deputy Director of Communications, Yaw Preko in an interview with Kasapa FM rubbished the NDC’s claims, adding that no amount of effort by the party can soil president Akufo Addo unblemished reputation as a leader who doesn’t countenance corruption.

He challenged the NDC to move away from making spurious allegations and provide evidence to help in the prosecution of public officials they claim to be corrupt.

“This is nothing but a failed attempt by the NDC to let President Akufo Addo look bad just as ex-President Mahama looks bad when it comes to fighting corruption. It’s well known that President Akufo Addo abhors corruption and does not encourage same. The same cannot be said of ex-resident Mahama who’s seeking to return to power. If the NDC has any incontrovertible evidence of corruption against any government official they should make that public so that such appointees can be prosecuted. They should provide the evidence to the police, Auditor General or the Special Prosecutor or any constitutionally mandated body to deal with corruption. The many corruption scandals relating to ex-President Mahama including the Ford Expedition, Airbus are still fresh in the minds of Ghanaians.”
