George Opare Addo, the National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a warning to Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson.

Addo stated that if the NDC comes into power after the 2024 elections, Koomson will be arrested and prosecuted for alleged criminal activities that occurred during her time in office.

In response to the recent arrest of Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, a parliamentary candidate in the Awutu Senya East constituency, Addo criticized what he viewed as unjustifiable detention driven by political motives during an interview on Onua TV on June 26, 2024.

He condemned the police's handling of Okunor's case, claiming that there was interference from higher authorities.

"The detention of Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor was irresponsible and lacked legal basis," Addo stated.

Turning his criticism towards Minister Hawa Koomson, he brought up an incident from the 2020 elections where Koomson displayed a firearm at a polling station.

"Hawa Koomson stood at the polling station and fired a gun; power is temporary. After December 7th, we will prosecute Hawa Koomson. She will be held accountable for all her offenses," he declared.

In the meantime, Mavis Hawa Koomson reiterated that the gun she used in the well-known shooting incident at Kasoa during the voter registration exercise was licensed.

She explained that while her actions that day were regrettable, she fired the warning shot in self-defense after feeling threatened while visiting registration centers in Kasoa.
