Hawa donates to school for child education improvement

Tamale, Nov. 29, GNA - Madam Hawa Yakubu, MP for Bawku Central on Monday presented about 80 half pieces of wax materials and a cash of 2 million cedis to the Girls' dormitory at the Tamale Girls International school in Tamale.

The students of the house would use the wax materials along side the school's uniform during Weekends and after normal class hours. The school had named one of its houses as "Hawa Yakubu House", which necessitated the MP to donate the items in appreciation to the authorities.

Madam Hawa Yakubu advised the students of the houde to work harder to become role models and that she was prepared to use every means available to improve infrastructure in the dormitory and in the school as a whole.

She said girl-child education was paramount in the development of the nation and that the NPP government would do everything possible to ensure that girls were placed in their proper place in education. She commended authorities of the school for the idea of opening a girls school in the region and that they should not relent in efforts to improve the girl child education in the three northern regions. The headmaster of the school, Mr Joseph Abayoruk, who received the items, said the decision of the school to name the house after the MP was due to her immense contribution towards the development of women in Ghana, particularly in the north.

He said the MP was also going to serve as a role model for the students to emulate and expressed gratitude to the kind gestur.

Mr Abayoruk said the school has four houses and decided to name them after great women in the north and Hawa Yakubu is one of such women.

He named the rest as Hajia Adisa Munkaila, current Member of the Council State and a Minister in the Liman regime, Madam Ramatu Baba, a first woman in the north to go to Parliament in the first Republic and Hajia Fati Jawula, also a Member of the Council of State during the NDC regime.

He said the school was the only girls school in the north with a population of about 1400 students.

Ms Salifatu Issah, General Prefect of the school, who coincidentally resides in the house, thanked the MP for the donation and that the students would never disappoint her but would learn hard to pass their examinations.
