Hohoe, April 9, GNA - Controversy is building up in the Hohoe area over the nomination of Mr Victor-Herman Condobrey as Municipal Chief Executive by President John Atta Mills. National Democratic Congress (NDC) activists and some chiefs in the area have slammed the nomination as "unconventional". The protestors said the choice of Mr Condobrey was against the "accepted practice" of alternating holders of that position between candidates from the Hohoe-North and Hohoe-South constituencies, which make up the municipal area.
Mr Raymond Katsekpor, Hohoe-South Constituency Organizer of the NDC and Assembly Member for Liati-Tehkrom Electoral Area said that had been the practice in the past 14 years. He served notice that the Assembly members from Hohoe-South would vote en-bloc to reject Mr Condobrey when he appears before the Assembly to seek its approval.
Mr Reagan Tepretu, Assembly Member for Santrokofi in Hohoe-North however said President Mills has not breached the convention because the position of Presiding Member of the Assembly was yet to be filled. He explained that in accordance with the convention where the MCE came from one constituency the PM was expected to come from the other. Mr Tepretu said the protest against Mr Condobrey's nomination arose because there had been only one Municipal Chief Executive from Hohoe-South since 1992. 09 April 09
