The General Secretary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwabena Agyapong has disclosed that he is now the acting Director of Communications of the NPP after asking Perry Okudzeto to proceed on leave.

In a statement signed by Mr. Agyapong, Perry Okudzeto was to proceed on a two-year leave starting August 18th, 2014.

The letter read: “You have accumulated leave for 4 years, but we are able to grant you two years leave, and this translates into 40 working days.”

The General Secretary also directed Mr. Okudzeto to prepare his handover notes and submit them to the acting Director of Finance and Administration by the close of August 15, 2014.

Meanwhile the following has been appointed as Deputy Communication Directors: Mr Abudu Abdul Ganiyu and Ahmed Karim; for the northern sector, Nana Yaw Osei and Jennifer Amoako for the middle belt; Micheal Ampong for the Western sector, Mike Ocquaye, Kofi Boateng, Pius Hadzide and Seibik Bugri, for the Eastern sector.

Even though Perry Okudzeto was asked to hand over to the acting Director of Finance and Administration, the newly appointed Deputy Communication Directors, will not be reporting to him.

Mr Agyapong told Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on Peace FM that they will be reporting to him directly.

“I take charge of that department until a new director is appointed, and so the new ones will report to me, the party’s General Secretary. I will direct them to the various media houses, and that is why they have been broken down to the various regions,” he indicated.

He also condemned the publication of Perry’s leave letter in the media and indicated that he was going to write to all the media houses to inform them (of Perry’s leave).

“We gave you an internal party memo and you took it to the media…within an hour, it was on the internet. The internal letter should not have been on air,” he bemoaned.

Commenting on whether or not Perry will come back to work as an executive of the party, he said: “yes...When he comes back, he will be reassigned to one of the new departments being created. He has not been sacked."
