Ahead of the opposition NDC’s primaries to decide on the party’s candidates to represent constituencies during the 2020 elections, popular actor and businessman John Dumelo has made a strong case for which he believes his constituents should elect him for the seat.

John Dumelo who is vying for the Ayawaso West Wuogon was brimming with confidence about his chances when he was asked by TV3’s host of New Day, John Hughes.

Reacting to comments made by some members of his party during the induction of NPP’s Ayawaso West Wuogon MP, Lydia Alhassan in Parliament after she won the byelection in the area, Mr Dumelo maintained a neutral stance stressing that what was important is that they will win nonetheless.

“…when that happened some of the people in the NDC said it was fair, others said it wasn’t fair; I’m just neutral.

The truth of the matter is that we’re going to win the seat. Whether you call her names or you don’t call her names we’re going to win the seat.”

He, however, stressed that he was not going to indulge in the campaign of name-calling but will do so with a clean heart focusing on issues concerning the constituency and constituents.

“…I campaign with a clean heart, and that is what will lead me to victory. I don’t campaign calling people names. It’s not going to get one vote to you… Campaign on issues, campaign on what you’re going to do for the constituency not what you’re calling other people names and so on, and so forth. What are the people expecting you to do, do it.”He noted

The Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election was muddied by invasion of unidentified security personnel and chaos resulting in the injuries of some residents earlier this year.

Several members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lambasted the National Security apparatus and subsequently government for failing to curb the incidence.

During the swearing-in of the Lydia Alhassan, majority of the minority in Parliament boycotted the ceremony while others held placards reading “bloody widow”.
