Sampson Lardy is host of Newsfile programme
In a moment of solemn reflection and deep thinking, Alan Kyerematen, the leader and presidential candidate of the Movement for Change/Alliance for Revolutionary Change for the upcoming 7th December 2024 elections, engaged selected media personalities at the Coconut Groove Regent Hotel in Accra on 13th August 2024.
The meeting was centred on Mr. Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan (GTP), a comprehensive blueprint designed to address the country’s economic and governance challenges.
Prior to the meeting, the presidential candidate had distributed copies of the GTP to the media, allowing them to study the document thoroughly and prepare pertinent questions.
Among the respected media figures present was Sampson Lardy of Newsfile, Joynews, renowned for his objectivity and independent-mindedness.
In his remarks, Mr. Lardy commended Mr. Kyerematen for crafting a hope-filled blueprint aimed at transforming the nation’s systems.
“The first time I read the GTP, my summary of it was that it was a coalescing of what people have demanded for a long time, including the transformation of the Constitution,” Mr. Lardy noted.
He further expressed his belief in the need for a third political force in the country, stating, “I am a believer in a third force, and I believe that your Movement can take us there.”
One of the key aspects of the GTP that resonated with the media personalities was Mr. Kyerematen’s approach to combating corruption.
He proposed the establishment of an anti-corruption Czar, endowed with independent prosecutorial powers, who would be empowered to prosecute even the sitting president.
According to what Mr. Kyerematen has outlined in his Great Transformational Plan, the Czar would be appointed by a second chamber of Parliament, ensuring a non-partisan approach to the fight against corruption.
Additionally, Mr. Kyerematen advocated for the consolidation of all corruption-related legislation into a single, comprehensive law.
The media engagement, which was characterized by deep discussions and thoughtful deliberations, left many of the journalists in attendance optimistic about the potential impact of the Great Transformational Plan on the future of the country.
