For a man who was purported to have complained about neglect by members of his party, one would expect his posturing will be that of an ‘Oliver Twist’ who wants more as far as positions in his party is concerned. It appears to be the reverse actually as Acting Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Patriotic Party, Nana Obiri Boahen has indicated his contentment with his ‘place’ in the party.

Taking his turn on ’21 Minutes with KKB’, Mr. Obiri Boahen told Host Kwabena Kyenkyenhene Boateng that he believes the biggest of work can be done from the smallest position no matter how small. It is the effort and determination of the person that matters for him hence, he can equally play his vital role and contribute significantly to the progress of the NPP without necessarily having to secure a ‘government position’.

His response to the question of why he is not in government was “I’m the Deputy General Secretary, its good. If you are the Deputy General Secretary of a ruling party like the NPP, it’s a very enviable position. I’m also playing a very vital role for my party”.

“The files on my table, it’s a major contributor for the party. I enjoy the position where I am. I am comfortable here, in the party office, I’m dong fantastic works for the party, people don’t know”.

A very hesitant Obiri Boahen refrained from directly answering the question of whether or not he was paid by the ruling NPP.

“I get something, I’m taken care of, every month; I’m given something reasonable. The party is adequately taking care of me but I won’t define what I mean by adequate” he noted.

Meanwhile the embattled legal brain has rendered an unqualified apology to his party members following the emergence of an audio that depicted him as having been neglected by his party members.

He in the said audio made damning revelations to an NDC activist about how the Presidency gifted the New Patriotic Party GHC50 billion in support of the organisation of the party’s 2017 National Annual Delegates Conference held at Cape Coast last August and also, how he has been unfairly treated as an official of the governing party while his colleagues are supposedly 'grabbing' and making gains from the party’s incumbency.

Following the revelations, the governing party dragged him to the party’s Steering Committee and further issued a press statement insisting the claims are ‘baseless’ and ‘palpable’ falsehood.

Obiri Boahen in a letter dated 2nd March, 2018 issued an unqualified apology to the President of the Republic of Ghana; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Vice President; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Steering Committe of NPP and Ghanaians at large over the incident vowing not to put himself in any such situation ever again.

He further prayed for the forgiveness of all party members, reiterating his commitment and loyalty to the governing NPP.
