The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has emphasized that issues of state assets, including land sales, should not be politicized.

Jinapor criticized Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for releasing details of land sold to private developers by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.

He stated that he could do the same with lands sold by NDC governments.

He mentioned having a list of state lands sold by former Presidents John Dramani Mahama, the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, and John Agyekum Kufuor.

“We lose the benefit of the discussion if we situate it in a narrow, self-serving political contest. We would lose it. It would just be an exercise in futility; it would not be productive if we begin to say that Akufo-Addo’s government sold this and sold that and therefore the Akufo-Addo government is engaged in state capture.

“It would not help us. As I sit here, I have a litany of land sales in Cantonment, in Ridge, in Roman Ridge, in Airport, Labone, the prime areas of Accra, which were sold under President Mahama’s administration. Some were sold under President Kufuor, some were sold under President Mills, some were sold under President Rawlings. Some were sold under Akufo-Addo, I’m not going to deny that,” he said in an interview on JoyNews on July 20, 2024.

He added, "We should limit this issue to finger-pointing because if we do, we will lose the essence of the discussion. We are at a cabinet retreat at Peduase and this matter has been discussed in three previous cabinet meetings, and we took a great deal of time to exhaust the subject."
