The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has refuted allegations of extorting money from some constituents under the pretext of facilitating their participation in a Commonwealth programme.

While she admitted introducing some youth to the programme, which she confirmed as legitimate, she clarified that she was not directly involved in the process.

According to a report by Adomonline.com, she disclosed this during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Monday, November 4, 2024.

She noted that if she had indeed taken money from anyone, she would have faced legal consequences by now.

“It was a programme going on that was advertised. People told me about it, and I took an interest in it because my people were suffering and could take advantage of it.

“I have stayed abroad; at least I have my own cars and a place to sleep, so I don’t need to extort money from anyone for any reason," she added.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey also accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of undermining the programme, which she said could have benefited some of their members.

“I was accused of causing visa traffic. They tried everything possible to sabotage and destroy it, so the programme was suspended. I directed the interested participants to the appropriate quarters, but I didn’t take money from anyone.

“But my opponents decided to resort to propaganda, but I am not afraid, and it doesn’t matter because I made sure the organisers refunded the monies after the suspension, and I personally refunded the monies of some people,” she said.
