I’ll Win Dome-Kwabenya Seat -Zita Declares

Tue, 15 Nov 2011 Source: --

As the NDC prepares for its Parliamentary primaries in the various orphan constituencies across the country, some interested persons have pulled their head to stake a claim to its rightful position as contestants carry persuasive messages to represent their constituencies.

One strong contender to fasten the belt to join the race is Zita Sabah Okaikoi who has vowed to wrestle the Dome-Kwabenya seat from the NPP who has brought hardship to the people in the constituency for the past 8 years in Parliament.

In an interview, she said what is driving the NDC under Prez Mills is the quest within the rank and file of the Executives in the various constituencies who forge a common front in a merger panorama among all NDC blocs as one solid political party to win the 2012 election.

Zita credited with the new lease of life in the NDC said she herself is wary to become the parliamentary candidate in 2012 and she is being impressed upon by the party’s rank and file in the constituency.

In fact, contesting a parliamentary position is not about using radio to boast about property owing democracy but it is about changing the lives of your constituents and I believe I have proven such qualities,” she averred.

She continued that Prof. Mike Ocquaye, incumbent MP for the constituency, had not done anything for the constituency and that she had rather done everything for the constituency.

Zita by her principles in fairness, equity and justice whiles in opposition in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency have embarked on several developmental projects to bring relief to the people in the constituency.

In some areas where water has not flowed for the past ten years of the NPP’s administration, she said she has constructed boreholes at Dome School Park, Taifa, Agbogba and its environs to make water accessible to the people.

She has provided streets lights to some areas which hitherto were always dark at night hence reducing road accidents, facilitation and funding for a Police tent together with other logistics, facilitation for the re-gravelling of the Dome market and construction of the Dome-Pillar 2 Bridge.

She said Ghanaians must “shun the petty politics and that, people have realised that I am the right person for the job and Ghanaians actually know this so let’s respect them because they have their own minds to decide”.

Mrs Okaikoi said she has been in touch with the people at all levels particularly the grass roots and has at some points in time met their needs hence her conviction that she will be given the chance to represent them in Parliament.

„We could have won the seat in 2008, indeed, we were declared winners in the mornining but the results had changed under very mysterious circumstanses when lights went off and ballot boxes vanished where some of us were stoned by NPP supporters during the 2008 elections“ she recalled.

Zita Okaikoi being a staunch believer in democracy was once Minister of Information and Tourism and has distinguished herself in playing vital roles towards helping the party achive its principles and objectives.

She said Ms. Adwoa Sarfo, the NPP aspirant in the race cannot be a threat. “I am a marketable and winnable candidate so we are going to spar it out “to win the seat.
