I’ll move NPP forward in Tema West – Adwoa Amoako

Mrs Adwoa Amoako, one of the three aspirants for the Tema West NPP seat, has declared that she will move the party forward in the constituency if she is given the nod in the June 13 Tema West NPP primaries and eventually becomes the Member of Parliament for the Constituency.

Interacting with some party delegates after whistle-stop visits to some of the electoral areas in the constituency, Adwoa Amoako said she was very much aware of the flagging spirit of some members of the party as a result of the party’s not-too-impressive showing in the 2008 and 2012 in the Tema West ConstituencyS but was confident that things would change for the better.

“Let me emphasise that I am this race primarily for two reasons: First of all, to contribute immensely towards the emergence of Nana Akufo-Addo as President of our dear nation, come 2016, and, secondly, to ensure that the New Patriotic Party regains its commanding role in the Tema West Constituency.

“Results of the last general election, for instance, clearly show that our fortunes as a party in Tema West are dwindling. Whereas the Presidential candidate amassed some 40,000-plus votes, our performance in the Parliamentary race wasn’t that impressive. There was a clear case of ‘skirt and blouse’ voting and that is why I decided to enter the race to bring a closure to those misfortunes and put the NPP back to where it really belongs.

“What I will do, and very quickly too, after winning the primaries will be to unite all the factions in our party in the Tema West Constituency. Fortunately, I have, for many years, worked for the party from the very grassroots and that gives me a lot of confidence that I will succeed. I relate to everyone – whether high or low – with great respect and humility. And having run and won elections on three various occasions at the Assembly level, I believe, and very strongly too, that I have the experience and capacity to bring everybody on board for the good of our dear party,” she added.

Adwoa Amoako appealed to the delegates not to be influenced by monetary considerations on the D-day but to entrust the job into the hands of someone who will move the party and the constituency forward.

She also pledged to use her share of the MPs Common Fund to initiate projects and schemes that will bring development to the people, adding that her 14 years’ experience in the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) as Assembly Member of the Wolei and Sakumono Electoral Areas has given her enough insight into the needs of the people and she is ready to deliver.

“I have lived in Tema West for many, many years. My family also live here and use the services here, so I care passionately about the state of our services and infrastructure and I am all geared up to bring positive change to the constituency.

“As Assembly Member over the last 14 years, I have initiated projects here and there, I have also helped a few people from my own meagre resources, and I know how important it is to have the right person ready to help when you have nowhere else to turn. That is the most important part of the job to me,” she stressed.

Throwing more light on her plans, Adwoa Amoako said her priority would be to set up an Educational Fund for brilliant-but-needy students, initiate schemes that will provide support for people with various vocations – seamstresses, hairdressers, artisans and the like – and also ensure that there are opportunities for young people and more jobs and investment in the constituency.

On services and infrastructure such as security, schools, roads and housing, Adwoa Amoako said she would liaise with appropriate state agencies to secure the things the Constituency need, adding that “if I am made the servant of the Tema West Constituency, one of my immediate goals will be to collaborate with the security services to ensure the safety of the people at all times”.
