Hassan Ayariga has indicated he will run for the 2016 presidential election on the ticket of the People's National Convention.

The 2012 presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC) told Morning Starr host Kafui Dey on Thursday that: “I’ll run my brother,” after he was pressed for a definite answer to a question about his future presidential ambition.

Mr Ayariga was widely perceived as the butt of jokes in the 2012 presidential election following his many slips during the presidential debates that were organised ahead of the polls.

He had a torrid time rallying support from the leadership of his own party during the campaign period.

His party’s national youth organiser Abu Ramadan endorsed the presidential candidate of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to spite him.

Some members of the party also accused him of running a unilateral campaign without involving the hierarchy and leadership of the party.

The businessman, who was the youngest of eight contestants polled 24,617 of total votes cast representing 0.22 per cent.

He went against the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo; the governing party’s John Mahama; the PPP’s Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom; the GCPP’s Dr Henry Lartey; the CPP’s Dr Abu Sakara Foster; the UFP’s Kwesi Addae and independent candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah.
