Tamale, Sept.16, GNA - Mr. Dan Bowte, one of the presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied that he is in alliance with any of the other people vying to be the flag bearer of the party.

He discounted rumours to the effect that he was in the race only as ploy or a diversionary tactic and that at the last minute he would pitch camp behind one of the other aspirants.

Mr. Dan Bowte who denied the reports when he interacted with journalist in Tamale on Saturday said, "I have never had discussions with any presidential aspirant that I will throw my weight behind him. I am in the race and determined to win".

The NPP presidential aspirant was on the second leg of his tour of the 26 constituencies in the Northern Region to urge the delegates to vote for him to lead the party.

The former NPP General Secretary said the time called for a new breed of leadership in the party, which he represented saying, "The NPP needs someone who can articulate the vision and philosophy of the party. Positions I have held in the party attest to this fact".

He said the party needed a leader who could motivate, inspire and have the stamina to work hard for the eight years of his presidency. Mr. Bowte allayed fears that because of the number of aspirants for the flag bear position the party would disintegrate when some of them fail to get the "nod" from the delegates, adding that, "the party is even now more matured".

He said the NPP under the Kufuor administration had done a lot for the country but more had to be done and urged delegates to the December 22 NPP Congress to elect him to carry on the good works.
