Former National Chairman of the oppositional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has expressed his commitment to joining the party’s campaign to ensure victory against the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December elections.

Mr. Ampofo for nearly a year has been out of the country for medical treatment where he had undergone multiple back surgeries after falling sick a few months after his lost bid for re-election to Johnson Aseidu Nketiah on December 18, 2022, during the party national delegates congress in Accra.

Speaking upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport on Thursday, May 23, 2024, the former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development emphasized the urgency of addressing the country’s dire state under the current Akufo-Addo-led administration, which he blamed for economic mismanagement, rampant corruption, and deteriorating public services.

"I have been away for nearly a year and I am happy to be back to join my comrades to rescue this country," Mr. Ampofo noted.

He commended the former president and 2024 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama and the rank and file of the NDC for a job well done thus far in running the party’s campaign toward victory in the December polls.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo also reposed confidence in the former president to deliver on his promises when voted into office on January 7, 2025.

"I know his [Mahama’s] commitment, love, passion, and desire to help bring the country out of the current tantrum we ourselves are in," he stated.

However, he thanked Ghanaians for their unwavering support with prayer while he was away seeking medical care.

Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo was met on arrival with a resounding welcome by dozens of enthusiastic supporters of the opposition NDC at Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport.
