Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah says he is ready to give up his chairmanship position for the greater unification of the Nkrumahist parties.

According to him, the amalgamation of smaller parties has worked in countries like Zambia, Kenya, and recently the Gambia, hence the need for smaller parties in Ghana to provide a united front to end the dominance of NDC and NPP.

There is an ongoing discussion with the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and the People’s National Convention Party (PNC) to merge into a single, stronger third force political party in Ghana’s politics.

Several reports about the merger of the Nkrumahist parties over the years have failed. The CPP and PNC for instance failed to merge in the run-up to the 2016 General Election.

Speaking to Henry Agbai on the Gold Power Drive, Mr. Bernard Mornah attributed the inability of the smaller parties to merge over the years to the “egos” of the leaders of the parties.

“It is about the personality who should lead the party and who should not and I think we have to deal with that if we want to come together. I think we are serious about mobilizing like-minded people so that we have a united front,” he implored.

He assured: “I will do everything possible to support including relinquishing my chairmanship position to get the merger come to reality.”
