David Kankam Boadu, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced his intention to contest the position of National Chairman, pledging to unify the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

In an exclusive interview with Rainbowradioonline.com, Boadu stated that the NPP is “deeply divided” and requires a unifying leader with “fresh ideas” to mend internal rifts.

He emphasised that the party’s interests must be prioritised above all else, regardless of factional loyalties.

“The party does not belong to any faction,” Boadu remarked.

He urged supporters of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong to set aside their differences, stating:

“The most important thing for me is that the party must be united, regardless of the candidate elected.”

Boadu asserted that he does not align with any of the current factions and that his sole agenda is to “save the party” and lead it to victory.

His campaign, dubbed Operation Save NPP Now, advocates for unity and an end to “money-driven politics.”

He praised the recent constitutional amendment that expanded the party’s electoral college, noting that it would help curb vote-buying and promote fairness.

“The party is in crisis. We need healing and honest leadership,” he declared.

Boadu further pledged to serve only a single term if he succeeds in his mission to unite the party.

He also issued a stern warning, cautioning that the NPP risks suffering a fate similar to the Convention People’s Party (CPP) without a strong unifying figure.

In a passionate appeal to delegates, Boadu stated:

“I warned the party in 2020, and I will repeat what I said again in 2025: the party needs to be handed over to me as National Chairman so I can unite our party and bring those who are disgruntled back.

"I am the only person with the competence, diligence, and strategy to make the NPP stronger again. I am not divisive. I am not corrupt. I have integrity, I understand the traditions of the party, and I also understand the concerns of the grassroots. So, I am appealing to the party delegates to consider my appeal and vote massively for me as the next chairman.”

He stressed that unity is not a “trivial statement but serious business that requires the strategy of a unifier.”

He contrasted the NPP’s current state with the previous election, suggesting that Ghanaians voted for President John Mahama in the 2024 elections not out of disunity but because he came from a united party that gave voters a compelling reason to support him.

“The NPP lacks that unity. That is what I am providing and proposing. The only unifier who is going to use unification in uniting the NPP is David Kankam Boadu,” he concluded.
