Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has expressed hopes that the Electoral Commission (EC) will make up for the time it has already lost in the ongoing Limited Voter Registration across the country.
After touring some registration centers in the Greater Accra Region, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress wrote on her social media pages that while she understands that there were some challenges on the first day of the exercise, she is hopeful it will not mar the entire process.
“I visited some designated voter registration centers this morning after a chaotic start to the exercise yesterday. While I understand that machines do break down, I did not expect the breakdown to occur on such a large scale with consistent problems. I am also informed that some centers could not start yesterday as planned, while other locations registered just a handful due to challenges with the EC’s devices.
“I sincerely hope that the EC makes up for the lost time and pray that the glitches will be reduced, and we'll have a smooth registration exercise where no one will be frustrated into thinking the process is very difficult and won't register,” she wrote.
In photos that accompanied her post, persons like the Member of Parliament for North Tongu in the Volta Region, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; MP for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu; and John Dumelo, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon were seen with her.
The NDC National Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo, was also seen with the team.
The EC started the 2024 Limited Voter Registration exercise on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, and it will run till Monday, May 27, 2024.
The EC has said that it is targeting the registration of 623,000 new voters.
