The General Secretary of the People’s National Convention Atik Mohammed has dismissed reports that he has been suspended indefinitely by his party.
Mohammed failed to survive a vote-of-no confidence by the PNC on Saturday following his public attacks on the party’s 2016 flagbearer Dr. Edward Mahama following his ambassadorial appointment by President Akufo-Addo.
The decision by the physician to accept the ‘ambassador-at-large’ appointment has attracted a barrage of criticism from senior members of the PNC including its chairman Bernard Mornah.
However, Starr News understands Mr. Mornah and other executives who criticised the appointment survived the vote-of-no confidence.
But in a reaction on his Facebook page, moments after the suspension was announced, Mr. Mohammed said no organ of the party except a national congress has the powers to suspend him.
“My attention has been drawn to some news that I have been suspended indefinitely. It is not true and, indeed, no organ of the party save National Congress is clothed with such powers. I will officially be issuing a statement to this effect.”
