Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya clashed with Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, on Facebook after Wode Maya advocated for the release of arrested Democracy Hub protesters.

In his post, Wode Maya expressed his disappointment with the trajectory of the country and its democracy.

Concerned about how individual rights are being curtailed and people being prevented from expressing their grievances about current events, he stated that the country has become unrecognisable in recent times, with people unable to voice their thoughts and rights.

“This is Not The Same Ghana We Know!#FreetheCitizens”, he posted on September 25 following the alleged inhumane treatment of arrested protesters by the police.

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah replied to Wode Maya by drawing comparisons to the Kenyan protests, where police cracked down on demonstrators.

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah backed the police for arresting the protesters, stating that they created inconvenience for road users and exhibited lawless behaviour.

“This happened in your wife's country, Kenya. The Gh protesters were arrested for taking the law into their hands and creating inconvenience for road users,” he replied.

In a sharp rebuttal, Wode Maya criticised him for making senseless and unwise comments in the face of oppression.

“Kofi Ofosu Nkansah I was definitely not expecting a wise comment from u considering your cover photo!.”

The three-day protest, themed #OccupyJulorbiHouse and #StopGalamsey, took a different turn on the second day when protesters blocked roads around the 37 intersection in Accra, obstructing traffic.

They removed police blockades, burned party paraphernalia, and took keys from a police van in an attempt to prevent the police from towing away their food truck.

They have since been charged by the prosecution with unlawful assembly and breach of peace, among other offenses.
