The Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, who hopes to lead the Navrongo Central constituency into the 2020 general election as Parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has vowed to defeat the National Democratic Congress (NDC), if she successfully makes it through the primaries.

Ms. Abayage who is very optimistic of winning the internal election which would be held in April, has assured that she would work tirelessly in unison to broaden chances of the party for both the Parliamentary and Presidential candidates when the delegates give her the nod.

The Minister said she had the candidature that she would create the enabling environment for the NPP to completely defeat the NDC and further push them into opposition.

On April 25, 2020, the NPP would be holding its primaries in constituencies where the party has sitting MPs, including Navrongo Central.

Earlier on September 28 last year, the NPP held primaries for constituencies that had no sitting MPs.

Speaking at the Navrongo Chief’s Palace Thursday where she had gone to officially inform the Paramount Chief and Elders about her desire to contest the primaries and to ask for their blessings, Ms. Abayage told the teeming party supporters that a vote for her would be a vote for development in unity and prosperity for Navrongo and its people.

She stated in Kasem that: “Today, I stand here, in front of this palace, and in the presence of God and the ancestors, to pledge that if God supports me, and the delegate vote for me to lead the elephant party, as I have picked the forms, to win the primaries on April 25, I won’t let them down. I will work with all my strength, heart and mind to bring development, peace, love and unity to the NPP and Navrongo as a whole. Navrongo needs development but without peace, there won’t be unity and development. And to the NDC people here, I want to assure them that if God permits me to lead the elephant party, I will completely floor their candidate and the umbrella party at the general election. President Nana Adda Dankwa Akufo Addo will also floor their John Mahama, their Presidential candidate”.

Madam Tangoba used the opportunity to reiterate to the Navro-Pio and elders her commitment to engage in a clean campaign devoid of insults and name calling. She pledged to hold her team members accountable and to ruthlessly with them when they are found engaging in such unacceptable behaviour.

Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area, Navro-Pio P3 Denis Asagpaare Balinia Adda ll, in his words of caution to both contenders and their supporters urged them to desist from attacking each other with insults for political gains, adding that his council will not accept any of such attitudes.

He said he has observed that politicians have succeeded in creating some division among his people when they need power, a situation he expressed worry about.

Citing his work experience in Ghana’s Parliament House as a fire officer for over 10 years, he cautioned the people to be mindful in their political dealings since politicians will win power and forget about the electorates.

“they will win power and go to parliament house and be drinking tea and coffee and we will be here poisoning ourselves to death. We do all these because of politics. For 18 years I have worked in the Parliament house. There, they don’t insult themselves. They work peacefully while drinking their coffee so why must we the electorates fight over politics to the extent of wanting to kill ourselves? Politics is all about ideas. You are not enemies so don’t insult and attack each other”. He cautioned in Kasem.

The Regional Minister later filed her nomination at the constituency party office in the company of some party executives, friends and ardent supporters. She promised to work to transform Navrongo in every sector.

She warned her supporters to engage in clean campaign, reminding them the need to use ideas and not insults. she vowed to sack any of her team members who flouts her instruction on a clean campaign.

Richard Kudamo, the constituency elections committee chairman who received her nomination forms reiterated the importance of ensuring peaceful election in the primaries.
