Seasoned journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has slammed the Electoral Commission over its proposal to use the Ghana Card as the sole identity card for voting in the December 7 elections.

The Electoral Commission suggested that the Ghana Card should be the only identity card used in elections, finding it credible enough to avoid election irregularities and to rightly and legally identify voters.

However, the Commission's proposal was met with opposition from some parties and individuals, compelling the electoral management body to reconsider its decision.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" panel discussion program, Pratt opposed the idea of making the Ghana Card the sole means of identification for exercising one's franchise.

"If I don't have a Ghana Card, should I lose my right to vote? Tell me, under what circumstances does not having a Ghana Card mean I lose my citizenship and my right to determine who should govern me? Why? Just because I don't have a Ghana Card, I cannot vote; where does this come from? What is the justification for that position?" Pratt questioned.
