Independent candidate backs NPP

Nkoranza (B/A), July 10, GNA - Mr Prince Kwame Ofosu-Adjei, independent parliamentary candidate for the Nkoranza North seat in the 2004 election, has urged his supporters to rally behind the New Patriotic Party candidate in the bye-election in the area to ensure that the party retains the seat.

Mr Ofosu-Adjei, Mr Hayford Francis Amoako, NDC and Mr Eric Amoateng, NPP vied for the seat in the election. It was won by Mr Amoateng, who is currently facing trial in the United States. The independent candidate told the Ghana News Agency on telephone that he had reconciled with the leaders of the NPP in Brong Ahafo and in the Constituency because differences that warranted his breakaway from the party had been resolved.

The independent candidate said as the electoral commission was yet to declare the seat vacant, the constituency executive members of the party were also yet to open nominations to select a candidate for the elections.

Mr Ofosu-Adjei gave the assurance that whoever was chosen to stand on the seat of NPP would receive his full mandate in order to retain the seat for the ruling party.

Mr. Ofosu-Adjei had 4,354 votes in the 2004 Parliamentary election as against 5,402 for Mr Amoako, the NDC candidate and 9,144 votes for Mr. Eric Amoateng, NPP.
