Independent parliamentary candidate outlines his priorities

Pampawie-Amanta, Nov 21, GNA - Mr George Harrison Kankam, an independent parliamentary candidate for the Akan constituency in the Volta Region, has said his top priorities when elected would be education, agriculture and sports. Addressing a rally at Pampawie-Amanta, he said he joined the race for parliament because he had the capacity above other candidates to add to the numerous projects initiated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in the area. Mr Kankam did not however say why he decided to go solo instead of supporting the NPP candidate. He said the only way to get rid of poverty in the area was improving human resource training facilities and promised to facilitate the establishment of vocational and technical schools in the area to give the youth employable skills. He would also facilitate a study to ascertain the causes of falling standards in schools.

He said the only way to get rid of poverty in the area was improving human resource training facilities and promised to facilitate the establishment of vocational and technical schools in the area to give the youth employable skills. He would also facilitate a study to ascertain the causes of falling standards in schools. Mr Kankam said he would formulate strategies to motivate teachers to give off their best and impress on parents to show interest in the education of their children. Some retired teachers would also be employed to organize extra classes for pupils and students. On agriculture, he said he would collaborate with agricultural authorities to introduce new crops with cost- effective machinery including tractor services and farming cooperatives. He commended government for opening up farming communities with roads and pledged to revive soccer to provide weekend entertainment in the district.
