Former Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Amankwah, has partly attributed the latest statistics by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), which indicate that over 7 million Ghanaians face poverty, to the behavior of the populace towards one another.
According to him, the individualistic attitude of Ghanaians largely contributes to this figure.
Nearly one out of every four Ghanaians has no or limited access to health care, education, employment, and also lives in poor conditions, a report released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has revealed.
This represents 24.3 percent of Ghanaians, which is over 7.31 million people said to experience multidimensional poverty, facing deprivations in health care, education, employment, and living conditions.
Unemployment contributes the most to the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) at 32.6 percent, followed by poor living conditions (27.9%), poor access to healthcare (21.7%), and the lack of education (17.8%).
Collins Amankwah noted on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show that this situation will be ameliorated when the nation returns to the communal family setting where each person cares for the other.
