Irate NDC youth lock-up Effutu constituency office, want parliamentary candidate replaced

Some concerned branch executives and supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu Constituency in the Central region have locked-up party's constituency office.

Their action follows an ultimatum they gave to the constituency, regional and national executives to call on the elected parliamentary candidate, Mr Victor Yankson, to step down for what they described as a more credible and hardworking person to lead the party into elections 2020.

The group that calls itself ‘NDC Concerned Branch Executives and Members’ gathered at the party office on Thursday, 6 February 2020 to register their displeasure over the candidature of Mr Yankson.

Speaking to the press during the demonstration held at the party office, group leader Angelina Mensah, explained that the party is currently in a divided and devastating state more than ever in the history of the party in the constituency.

“We are of the view that if we do not check it now, we may even get to a worse state before the upcoming elections," she said.

She continued “It'll be recalled that we suffered a humiliating defeat in the last elections due to the division in our party and our then parliamentary candidate, Eric Don-Arthur. The Effutu seat was a strong hold for our party but same cannot be said now as we're gradually loosing grounds and making the seat a comfortable one for the opposing party.

“Therefore, we the concerned branch executives members are kindly requesting from party leaders to consider the following facts as our reasons for calling for the replacement of the elected parliamentary candidate, lawyer Victor Yankson...

"He has failed totally in bringing the party supporters together, he does not have the support of about 90% of the constituency executives and there are lots of issues presently ongoing in constituency.

"As the biggest opposition party, we're expected to have a voice and contribute to discussions on issues, unfortunately, we are always missing out in his actions.”
