Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has reacted to the latest report by Afrobarometer, which has indicated that 87%, representing almost 9 in every 10 Ghanaians, believe the country is heading in the wrong direction.

The lawmaker said this is not surprising considering that someone who is reckless and incompetent is leading the affairs of the state.

The report also revealed that there is a massive decline in democracy satisfaction among countries in Africa, with Ghana experiencing a double-digit decline.

In 2011/2013, the percentage of Ghanaians that were satisfied with democracy stood at 74%. But Ghana’s performance has decreased to 51%, indicating a 23 percentage point decline in the last decade. This shows a decreasing popularity of democracy among the Ghanaian people over the years.

Dr. Apaak, reacting to this, stated that the president, who is deceitful, has messed up the country and worsened the plight of Ghanaians. He noted that it would be grave for Ghanaians to even consider handing over power to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia since he is also deceitful and incompetent.

He stressed the need for Ghanaians to vote massively for former President John Dramani Mahama.

“Why won’t the country [car] be going in the wrong direction when the deceitful driver’s mate looks on as the reckless driver speeds in the wrong direction? We certainly can’t give the car [Ghana] to the deceitful mate when we take it back from the reckless driver.”

Meanwhile, he has also admonished party members not to be complacent following the latest prediction by Fitch Solutions.

The UK research firm has predicted victory for former President John Dramani Mahama with an over 50 percent margin. However Dr. Apaak believes the current composition of the Electoral Commission cannot be trusted, hence the need for them to put in efforts to protect the will of the people.

“We must guard against complacency in the wake of the slew of polls by local and international entities predicting victory for John Dramani and the NDC.

"We must stay focused and work towards protecting the votes of Ghanaians in light of the composition and posture of the Electoral Commission. We must be in readiness to give effect to ‘do or die’ should any group, including members of so-called disbanded vigilante groups, adorned in military and police uniforms, attempt what they did in the 2020 elections.”
