Atik Mohammed has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government officials regarding the fight against illegal mining, popularly called 'galamsey'.

Galamsey has become the bane of the country as this mining menace threatens the lives of Ghanaians.

The nation's water bodies and environment are currently in ruins, especially in the mining communities, as a result of the galamsey operations.

Commenting on the issue during Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' show, Atik Mohammed reiterated his call for the President to ban small-scale mining to curb the galamsey menace.

To him, "there is no difference between small-scale mining and galamsey," stressing that those involved in small-scale mining are the same people involved in galamsey.

Atik expressed disappointment in the President, saying, "it is obvious Akufo-Addo's government is not readily committed to fighting against galamsey. And it is obvious in the actions of the President, in the actions of the Ministers, and everybody else who claims to be working for the government that their resolve is not to stop the galamsey right now. In fact, when I use the word 'right now', it means they have plans of doing so in the future, but they have shown that they are not committed to the fight."
