Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the government spokesperson on governance and security, has expressed his sadness over referring to John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, as a former president.
This, he considers, is one of the historical facts with which he is discontent.
The politician stated that he would be disappointed if Ghanaians voted for Mahama, as he believes Mahama is not a leader and did not demonstrate leadership while in power.
"It hurts me that he has entered our history as a past president, which is why I do not want him to return as president," he said.
Boakye-Danquah noted that the former president could not be considered a leader because he was unprepared for the presidency and became president by default after the death of John Evans Atta Mills.
"If Ghanaians really want a future for the country, then the NPP, as a vehicle with competent people, is the party to consider in the December 7 general elections," he asserted.
"I will be very sad, and I don't think it will happen if the Ghanaian people consider John Dramani Mahama. I have seen his leadership, and when we talk of leaders, I don't think he is one.
"He accidentally fell into the opportunity to become president. He wasn't prepared for it. He became president by accident. If not for the death of John Evans Atta Mills, John Dramani Mahama would not have been president," he elaborated.
He also suggested that Mahama won the 2012 elections, which the NPP contested in court because they felt it was rigged.
However, the court affirmed him, and for the fairness of Ghana's democracy, they gave him the opportunity to be president.
"But I regret that he won that election. It saddens me that he's gone into our history as a former president. That is what it is. But I don't want him to come again.
"I look at those who have been presented as candidates, and I think the most competent, the most credible, the most humble, and the most globally acclaimed—the one who has a digital understanding of where the world is going and who has demonstrated leadership as Vice President and will do more as President is Dr. Bawumia," he concluded.
