Tamale, Nov. 23, GNA - Dr Edward Mahama, Presidential Candidate of the Grand Coalition, on Tuesday warned the electorate that their plight would worsen if they renewed the mandate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Election 2004.
"It will be political suicide if Ghanaians make a second mistake and vote for the NPP during the December 7 polls," he said during an interaction with some chiefs in the Tamale Metropolis as part of his campaign tour of the Northern Region.
The Presidential Candidate, who is on a five-day campaign tour of the Region observed that both the NPP and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) could not meet the development aspirations of Ghanaians.
He stressed: "It is ridiculous for the two parties to still tell Ghanaians to vote for them after failing to live up to expectation." Dr Mahama said only the Grand Coalition had the antidote to the problems of Ghana.
He said the poverty situation affecting Ghanaians was so appalling that most people could not manage three square meals a day. Dr Mahama addressed political rallies at Kumbungu; Savelugu; Loloto, Yeji and Salaga where he pledged the commitment of the Grand Coalition to provide free education from the nursery to senior secondary school and reintroduce subsidies on agriculture.
Dr Mahama told the Ghana News Agency that even though the President was also on a campaign tour of the Region, there was no way the two would clash.
"I have the programme of the President's tour and there is no way I will clash with him," he said. 23 Nov. 04
