The late national chairman of the New Patriotic Party Jake Obitsebi Lamptey lost control of the elephant family in the dying embers of his chairmanship, a founding member of the party has revealed.
In a tribute to the fallen member of the Danquah-Busia Dombo tradition, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe said even though Mr. Obitsebi Lamptey was an effective leader when he took over the party, he ceded his authority to some individuals in the party.
“He was a strong person, but he couldn’t stand firmly when we started having problems in the party. When a party is having problems, you protect the interest of the party not individuals but unfortunately when the party had issues in the last days of his administration he allowed some individuals to control him,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe told host of GH Today Kafui Dey in an exclusive interview..
The former Minister of Tourism died in London Sunday following a protracted illness. He was 70-year-old.
A statement signed by acting General Secretary of the NPP John Boadu said “Obetsebi Lamptey did not only serve his party selflessly and diligently, but also helped in nation building”.
It added, “as we mourn this great man of our party and country, we request that all party flags- national, regional, constituency and polling stations offices- fly at half-mast.
