Jake Obetsebi Lamptey
A Former Interior Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Yendi constituency in the Northern Region Malik Alhassan Yakubu has described the former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey as a Marshall in the field.
He indicates that the demised party stalwart though was a Christian had a Muslim heart to the extent that Muslims brothers including him tried convincing him to convert into Islam.
According to him, he worked tirelessly to ensure that his contributions as head of communications, inured to the benefit of the party in its formative years indicating that his death is a big loss to Danquah-Busia-Dombo Tradition.

Indeed, Innaa lillaahi, wa Innaa Ilaihi rajioon. That indeed is a sad loss. Jake played a pivotal role in the formation of the NPP. In 1991/1992, Jake was one of a few people who met in Nana Addo’s flat in North Labone to plot the formation of party of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo Tradition. Jake was in charge of Communication and art matters. We used to meet late into the night, and he used his private company extensively to promote the cause. It was a time of sacrifice and on his part he played his role admirably. Because the ban on political parties was not yet lifted our meetings were secret and potentially risky but like the others Jake never wavered. When the party came to be openly formed, Jake again was Marshall in the field. It was a matter of course he eventually became Party Chairman. We cannot ever say too much goodness about Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey. Yes, he was a Christian but had the heart of a Muslim ; indeed those of us Muslims who were close to him, if we had pushed hard enough he would have converted to Islam. Let’s all continue to pray for his soul. May the Gracious Allah be merciful to him. Amen”
